bottle box 2015

Next entry in my winter "Portals" series-- Now is the time when I wonder what is in store this year, and seek light. This accordion-structured book is a stack of thick glass bottle bottoms mounted in layers of plywood, through which a light shines (from an LED flashlight via an old tank periscope). The rear assembly has places for colored gels, diaphragms, polarizers, lenses, and images. As the book is opened, the image gets clearer but harsher, like approaching future. The ten layers could symbolize decades of a life, with a light-to-dark gradient around a light at the end of the tunnel. Variant on a crystal ball, or maybe just an optical toy-- take your pick.
