“REGRETS ONLY” box is an oak box with a spring-loaded pop-up stack of handmade flax paper sheets. These “regrets” are shrunken and wrinkled and unbeautiful. Central holes form a winding wormhole passage down to the base, traced by a blue cord of misery, down to a lower chamber where regrets can compost in a tobacco container, which gives off a faint odor of self-pity. A partially melted copper sheet tops the stack, with a central orifice leading downwards. Letterpress title on inner top. The stack pops up forcefully when opened— Jack-in-the-Box version of Pandora’s box. This time of year is for making resolutions about the future, while keeping a firm lid on past regrets.
